Il Ciliegio’ was a ruin and hadn’t been lived in for 20 years but the farmhouse already had significant character and appeal.  In only ten months this ruin has been brought back to life maintaining the old features and respecting the Tuscan tradition.  Il ‘solaio alla toscana’, Chestnut beams with terracotta tiles, features all the rooms.  The floors are characterised by cotto toscano or terracotta tiles and antique furniture adds that warm touch of genuinity.

Cast iron accessories and stone resembling tiles furnish the bathrooms: the owners tried to decorate the interior as naturally and Tuscan as possible.  Together with the builders they insisted upon uncovering all the hidden characteristics which had been covered and forgot by the previous inhabitants. Although it had been totally neglected this property was fortunately in good structural order having withstood centuries and centuries of history.  Thought to date back to the 12th century ‘The ciliegio’ is believed to be part of a tower or fort of defense: this is to be deduced by the extreme thickness of the kitchen walls (the oldest part of the house), more than a metre thick!!!
The windows and internal doors have been skilfully made by a local carpenter using local chestnut and cast iron hinges, every single detail to respect the Tuscan tradition. A wonderful fireplace is the focal point of our living room: made in the local 'pietra serena' it is featured by Anghiari's 'giglio' or emblem.

Il Ciliegio can accommodate up to 4 people: it offers a double bedroom ('il mandorlo' - the almond tree) and a twin bedroom ('il girasole' - sunflower). The double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with bath and the twin bedroom has a separate private bathroom with shower. Although part of our house the two rooms and bathrooms are on the top floor of the house, so they enjoy views and privacy at the same time.

On the first floor there is a communal lounge with fireplace. On the ground floor there is a large communal kitchen / dining room. Outside there is plenty of space to relax for everyone.
